Prayer Guide – Week 22 (Jan 30th - Feb 5th)

1 Saitama & Chiba

The two Prefectures we are praying for this week at Saitama and Chiba

Saitama, though a major farming area, is quickly becoming an urban extension of Tokyo.
The traditional religious beliefs of rural communities stand strong while the city is producing many adherents of "new religions," which promise material gain and peace of mind for those who adhere to their teachings.
Whether rural villagers or city dwellers, all are empty and searching for some sort of satisfaction.

Please pray for:

  • Christians from the city to reach out to those in the countryside who have never heard the Gospel
  • Jesus to gather His sheep from Saitama, especially those who have fallen through the cracks of urban life, longing for love and companionship
  • Saitama to come to the feet of the Lord Jesus and have a new heart that would be used to shine God's light on the rest of Japan.

Chiba
As Tokyo's neighbour, Chiba is a major hub for chemical and heavy industries.
It has been the least culturally developed district in the greater Tokyo area, but with the opening of Narita International Airport rapid growth is occurring.
There are many temples and shrines in this prefecture while 0.003% of the population are members of a church.

Please pray for:

  • The lost of Chiba - that they would be found; that those seeking God would find Him.
  • Believers in Chiba - that they would be Jesus' shining light in this dark place.
  • Workers to enter God's harvest there.
  • Chiba to be won for Christ.

"And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. So there will be one flock, one Shepherd."

2 To realize the importance of their existence

(1) The number of suicides in 2022 is 21,584 (National Police Agency's suicide statistics), an increase of 577 compared to the final figure in 2009 and the first increase in two years. Before the domestic epidemic of the new coronavirus, the number of suicides decreased for 10 consecutive years and reached about 20,000 in 1919, but the number has remained high with an increase of about 1,000 due to the coronavirus disaster. Pray that those who have lost their way due to the Corona disaster will find the presence of the church. May the church be there for them.
 
(2) Suicide is the leading cause of death among the younger generation.
Looking at the ranking of causes of death by age group, suicide is the leading cause of death for each age group from 15 to 39. Japan is the only developed country (G7) where suicide is the leading cause of death among the younger generation from 15 to 34, and its death rate is higher than that of other countries. Please pray that we will accept this reality and preach the gospel to the young people.
 
(3) In Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, there is a church called Shirahama Rescue Network, a non-profit organization that conducts activities related to suicide prevention.
The San-dan-babe wall is a sightseeing spot, but also known as a suicide spot. There is a public telephone right next to the wall and a sign with a cross on the side. In the phone booth, there are letters, 10-yen coins, and telephone cards for suicidal people. We hope that the suicidal people will be able to stop and realize the importance of their existence.

3 For child rearing

Raising children is extremely important so that the children who are the future of this country will know the value of their existence and shine forth the life that has been given to them.

  • Let us pray for those who are involved in this area.
  • Pray for parents who are already in contact with the Word of God, that they will treat their children with biblical values.
  • Pray for the adults in the church who are already in contact with the Word of God, so that they will pray for their children.
  • Pray that children who are unable to receive a proper education due to financial reasons will be given help.
  • That the church school workers who serve to share the gospel with children will be further encouraged.
  • That children will accept the gospel and be saved.
  • That help will be given to children who have pain in their families.
  • That those who are struggling with child-rearing will be given help in Christ. That such work will be blessed more and more.
